45.3 million people in East Africa food insecure-Food Security Monitor

The number of people facing food insecurity in five selected East African countries has remained unchanged over the past three consecutive months, standing at 45.3 million.

 This represents a worsening situation compared to April 2024, when 32.9 million people were affected, and April 2023, when the figure stood at 42.9 million people were affected.

Over the past year all selected East African countries, except Kenya and Tanzania, have experienced a deterioration in food security. Rwanda, South Sudan, and Uganda were the most significant contributors at 38.4%, 53.1%, and 116.8%, respectively. This according to the Food Security Report, prepared by AGRA.
