Uganda partners with Ethiopia to strengthen dairy trade

Uganda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Ethiopia, under which the two countries will cooperate in agriculture and the animal industry.

Fred Kyakulaga Bwino, Uganda’s Minister of State for Agriculture, signed on behalf of the Ugandan government on Friday last week during the 4th Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in Addis Ababa.

As part of the MoU, the Commission agreed to promote trade in dairy and dairy products, coffee, and sugar, among other things. The JMC was convened by the decisions of the 3rd JMC Session between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Republic of Uganda.

The Delegation of the Republic of Uganda was led by Jeje Abubakhar Odong, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by Francis Mwebesa, the Minister of Trade Industry and Cooperatives, Fred Byamukama, the Minister of State for Transport, Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, the Minister of State for Agriculture, and David Rubakuba Muhoozi, the Minister of State for Internal Affairs.

The Delegation of Ethiopia was led by Dr. Gedion Timothewos, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, who was accompanied by Dr. Kassahun Gofe, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Getachew Menegste and other sectoral Ministers, CEOs, and representatives of different institutions.

At the end of the meeting, the ministers also acknowledged the signing of eight MoUs in the fields of;
a. Bilateral Air Services Agreement
b. MoU on Industrial Cooperation
c. MoU on Cooperation in the Energy Sector
d. MoU on Water Resource Management
e. MoU on Technical Cooperation in Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
f. MoU on Cooperation in Aviation Training
g. MoU on Cooperation and Assistance in Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation.
h. MoU on Trade Cooperation.
