Uganda to host the 13th Potato Conference

Uganda is set to host the 13th African Potato Association (APA) Conference. It takes place from the 25th to the 30th of May, at the Speke Resort Hotel in Munyonyo, Kampala-Uganda.

The conference brings together leading experts and partners to share insights, innovations, and strategies to advance potato and sweet potato value chains in Africa.

The conference sub-thematic areas include:

  1. Crop improvement: Developing superior varieties meeting changing farmer and consumer demands.
  2. Public-Private approaches for improving Seed Systems: Policies and approaches for improving access to high quality seed
  3. Regenerative agri-food systems: Improving farmers productivity and income through scaling crop intensification and diversification in the context of resilient agri-food systems
  4. Pest and disease management for the current and future climate: Understanding and tackling of pests and diseases
  5. Linking production systems to market opportunities: Adapting and re-orientating Agriculture and food systems to markets
  6. Nutritious agri-food systems: Agriculture for food security and human health

The conference running under the theme “Fostering Climate Smart Cropping Systems for Sustainable Potato and Sweet potato value chains’ is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) through the National Agriculture Research Organisation (NARO) supported by the International Potato Center, The African Potato Association (APA) and CGIAR.
